Prefabio: bio-based modular building, eight companies and a factory on one Odoo

Prefabio builds bio-based and modular from Barneveld. Founder Jaco Kuiper started on Odoo Online himself and hit its limits. We moved his database to Odoo.sh in a single day, put accounting and inventory in order for eight companies, and are now setting up the factory.

Prefabio, based in Barneveld, builds bio-based and modular. Walls and modules are made in the factory and leave for the building site as complete elements. Behind the company sits a group of eight legal entities, led by founder Jaco Kuiper. He found us through one of our clients.

The challenge

Jaco had already chosen Odoo. He signed up for Odoo Online himself and started configuring with real enthusiasm. It soon became clear he needed more: room for his own extensions, his own reports, and a platform that grows with eight companies and a factory. That means Odoo.sh.

That is where it got stuck. His database ran on an intermediate Odoo version that you cannot simply move to Odoo.sh. The usual route is to re-enter everything. Meanwhile Jaco was standing still, adding nothing new to Odoo while the decision was pending. What he wanted was momentum, and a partner who thinks along and makes the call.

The approach

Foundation first. We did not re-enter a thing. Tim Kieft moved the existing database to Odoo.sh in a single day, on a no cure, no pay basis. The eight companies, the chart of accounts, the journal entries and the bank accounts all stayed in place. Quotes and invoices got the right branding per company.

Then the fit-gap. Jaco filled in a questionnaire per process through Growdoo: accounting, logistics, manufacturing and sales. That gave a clear picture of how Prefabio works, and of what standard Odoo already solves. No custom development has been needed so far.

Now the factory. Every wall element gets its own bill of materials. A sales order kicks off production. Work orders move through the work centres in the right sequence, and the shop floor shows what needs to be done today. Load per work centre becomes visible day by day.

Purchasing got a deliberate choice. Standard components are replenished with min/max rules, imported from Excel in one go. So not every order spawns its own purchase order, and you buy in bundles what you actually need.

The result

Prefabio runs on an Odoo that grows with it. Accounting and inventory are in place for all eight companies, in one database. Setting up manufacturing is in full swing.

There is deliberately no fixed project plan with phases on paper. Prefabio calls us in when there is work to do, and we pick it up. That way the system grows at the same pace as the business.
