Pick Picky: the new brand from the Fish Tales family starts greenfield on Odoo

Pick Picky, the new sauce brand from the Fish Tales family, is building its brand in public - and its back office properly from day one. Sales, purchasing, inventory and accounting in Odoo, with EDI towards retail and a multi-company setup within the holding.

Pick Picky is the new brand from the family around Fish Tales, the Dutch sustainable fish brand. While the brand itself is being built loudly in public, the opposite applies to the back office: it simply has to stand there, quietly working.

The challenge

Anyone from the Fish Tales school knows exactly what happens when a food brand takes off in retail: supermarket orders arrive through EDI, margins hinge on your transfer prices, and the books have to be right per entity within the holding. So the lesson was not “start small and see” but: set up the back office properly from day one, so the brand can grow without redoing the operation.

The approach

Greenfield in Odoo, with no old system in the way. Sales, purchasing, inventory and accounting run on one database, set up as multi-company within the holding, with inventory valued at transfer prices so price differences are visible instead of buried. The EDI connection towards retail completes it: a supermarket order arrives and becomes stock, delivery and invoice without retyping.

The result

A young brand with the administration of a mature supplier: the foundation runs, and the build-out moves with the growth of the brand. Which is exactly the point of starting early - when the first big retail order lands, the system is not a topic of conversation.
