Sycada: from self-built Odoo to a mature environment with consolidation and investor reporting

The Amsterdam mobility-data company set up most of Odoo itself and came to us for the last twenty percent: finishing accounting, migrating to Odoo.sh with an upgrade to version 19, multicompany with the German entity and the holding, and moving CRM and marketing over from Zoho and Brevo.

Sycada helps fleets become more sustainable with data: telematics and reporting that make companies drive more economically and safely. An international organisation with a Dutch and a German entity, and a holding above them.

The challenge

Sycada had been working on Odoo itself for a year, and had done it well: the ERP side was about ninety percent there and a large part of accounting was running. But the last step turned out to be the hardest. Accounting had to be completed, there was a need for financial reporting for investors and management, the German entity and the holding had to join, and CRM and marketing still lived in separate tools. The question was not “set up Odoo for us” but “finish what we started”.

The approach

That is exactly where we began, with a fit-gap on what was already there instead of a blank sheet. The environment moved from Odoo Online to Odoo.sh with an upgrade to version 19, making room for multicompany: the German entity and the holding in the same database, with consolidation across entities. Accounting was completed and subscriptions are invoiced in advance the way they should be. CRM and marketing automation are moving over from Zoho and Brevo, shipping runs through Sendcloud, and the team received training so the knowledge stays in-house.

The result

An environment that no longer stalls at ninety percent: the foundation runs on Odoo.sh, the financial administration works, and the expansion to Germany and the holding is underway instead of sitting on a wish list. Support is structurally covered with Odoo Heartbeat. The lesson for anyone who started Odoo on their own: that is not a false start, it is a head start - as long as someone takes the last twenty percent seriously.
