Odoo vs Exact.
Where each one wins.

The most honest summary we can give: Exact is the Dutch standard in accounting, and if accounting is your whole question, there is little reason to leave. The switching question almost never starts because Exact does something wrong. It starts when a second layer of software grows around it - a webshop, an inventory tool, a planning sheet in Excel - and someone in the back office spends every week reconciling the truth across systems that do not know each other.

I am not writing this as an outsider. I have worked with Exact since the early nineties: the DOS version ran our family business, back when Exact was still that likeable company founded by a group of TU Delft students. Around 1998 I became an Exact partner myself, and I watched first-hand how it turned into a subscription machine where quality, usability and value for money no longer came first - Exact for Windows was, in my partner years, a disaster, and Globe did not redeem it. I moved to an AccountView partnership instead: the friendlier product of its day, a bit like what Odoo is to the market now - though AccountView itself later failed to move with the times.

The pattern repeated recently, this time with me as the customer. One of my own companies ran happily on Reeleezee until Exact acquired it: the price increases started almost immediately, and the superb support was the first thing cut. Those are exactly the two complaints that dominate Exact reviews today - I do not need to quote a review site, I paid for them myself. And honestly: now that we build Odoo-to-Exact Online connections for clients, even with thirty years of Exact experience I can barely find my way around the product anymore.

Among the companies that came to us from Exact - six published cases, from Tulppack (Brincr, Exact Online plus a separate webshop: three systems, three truths, now one) to Bos Cleaning & Finishing, Stil and T. van der Plas - hardly anyone was unhappy with the bookkeeping itself. The operation - manufacturing, warehouse, orders, webshop - simply did not fit in it, and that is where the hours leaked away.

If you run Exact Globe, the calendar joins the decision: the last full service pack for Globe Next shipped in March 2026, after which updates and security patches stop. Moving to its successor Globe+ is a genuine migration, not an update - so you are doing that project anyway. That makes this the natural moment to ask the question once, properly: the same package on a newer platform, or the whole operation on one system.

Two things in fairness. We are an Odoo partner, so read this with that lens. And switching is not all-or-nothing: Wijnwinkel Barneveld runs its store, webshop and point of sale on Odoo with a connection to Exact Online, because that is where the accountant lives. Though we notice something in those collaborations: accounting firms that initially insisted on staying with Exact increasingly decide to run that client’s books in Odoo after all. If all you need is bookkeeping, staying with Exact is fine - or connect instead of migrating.
