What is Quote-to-Cash (Q2C)?
Quote-to-Cash (Q2C) is the full process from quote to money in the bank: configure, price and quote (CPQ), the order, deliver or produce, invoice and payment. It is the entire commercial chain - CPQ is only the front of it. The smoother Q2C runs, the faster and more error-free you go from sale to cash.
The steps of Quote-to-Cash
Q2C runs in steps that lean on each other: assemble and price a quote (CPQ), capture the order, deliver or produce, invoice, and collect payment - after which the data flows back to sales for the next contact. Each step inherits the data from the previous one. If the quote is right, the order is right; if the order is right, the invoice is right. One small error at the front carries all the way through to the cash.
Where Quote-to-Cash leaks
It rarely goes wrong within a step, but between them. At every handoff from one system to another - quote in tool A, order in B, invoice in C - things get re-typed, errors appear and delays build up. Those seams are exactly where margin and time leak away unnoticed; it shows up nowhere on an invoice, but it does on your P&L. That is what our ERP Cost-Leak Scan makes visible: work out what the handoffs cost you per year.
Q2C vs CPQ - the difference
CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) is the front of Quote-to-Cash: assemble the right product, price it and quote it. Q2C is the whole chain after that up to and including payment. Getting CPQ right is step one and pays off immediately; but the biggest leaks are often further along, in the handoffs to order, production and invoicing. That is why we look at the whole Q2C chain, not just the quote.
Quote-to-Cash in Odoo
Odoo covers the whole Q2C chain in one system: CRM, the configurator (CPQ Builder), sales, inventory and manufacturing, invoicing and payment. No handoffs between separate tools, no seams, one data model from quote to cash. That is the whole point: not five systems that half-understand each other, but one chain where the quote flows straight through to the order, production and invoice.
Separate tools per step vs Odoo (one chain)
Where the difference sits:
| Separate tools per step | Odoo - one chain | |
|---|---|---|
| Handoffs | At every step | None, one data model |
| Error risk | High (re-typing) | Low |
| Visibility of the chain | Fragmented | Real-time, end-to-end |
| Where margin leaks | In the seams | No seams |
Frequently asked questions about Quote-to-Cash
What is Quote-to-Cash?
The full process from quote to payment: configure, price, quote (CPQ), order, deliver or produce, invoice and payment. The entire commercial chain from sale to cash.
What is the difference between Q2C and CPQ?
CPQ is the front (configure-price-quote); Quote-to-Cash is the whole chain after that up to and including payment. CPQ is one part of Q2C.
Where does a Q2C process go wrong?
Usually not within a step, but in the handoffs between separate systems: re-typing, errors and delay. Those seams are where margin and time leak away.
How does Odoo cover the Quote-to-Cash chain?
Odoo runs CRM, configurator, sales, inventory/manufacturing, invoicing and payment in one system, with one data model - so the quote flows through to the invoice without a handoff.

We show how Quote-to-Cash runs in Odoo with no handoffs between separate tools - from configuration to payment.
