Biorefinery Solutions (BRS Green) uses mild biorefining to extract valuable ingredients from agrifood side streams: plant-based proteins, fibres and syrup from residues such as malt sprouts and vegetable-processing leftovers. Sustainable food production in the most literal sense - what is waste elsewhere becomes an ingredient here.
The challenge
Odoo was already in place: an Odoo.sh environment, contracted directly with Odoo, with only CRM in use. The rest of the business - inventory, production and the financial administration - lived outside it. For a biorefinery that is not sustainable: recipes change per feedstock stream and must stay traceable in versions, batches require traceability towards certification, and products carry temperature conditions that need to be visible throughout the chain. BRS was looking for a Dutch partner who could take the accounting side seriously in particular.
The approach
The kickstart method, starting where every predictable project starts: a fit-gap per process, with questionnaires for manufacturing, inventory and finance. Then the core processes in steps on the existing environment: Inventory and Manufacturing with recipe management on bills of materials, temperature conditions on the product, and a separate warehouse for finished product that has not yet been released - so that quality literally sits between production and sales. Accounting was set up from the ground up, product data came in structured through a mass import, and label printing runs via Direct Print without a PDF detour. Along the way the environment was upgraded to Odoo 19.
The result
One system in which a side stream comes in, becomes a product through a recipe and leaves the building as a released batch with the right label - with accounting that runs along live instead of being updated afterwards. Development continues: subcontracting with by-products and dashboarding are on the agenda, and support is structurally covered with Odoo Heartbeat. This is what a living system should look like: the foundation stands, and every step builds on it.
