Visma Net (Visma.net ERP) is a serious cloud ERP, strong in finance, logistics, purchasing, inventory and project accounting, with a solid Northern-European base. It fits organisations that mainly want to professionalise financial control, order and purchasing processes and project administration. But it is not primarily a manufacturing, CRM, eCommerce or service platform, so those usually live in separate tools around it - and a patchwork grows. Two fair notes first: 'Visma' is not one product (Visma Net is the cloud ERP we mean), and it genuinely is cloud with an official API, so 'Visma isn't cloud' is not a fair argument. Odoo gets interesting once you want to connect CRM, eCommerce, production, service, customer portal and marketing with finance and logistics in one broad platform. In one line: Visma Net is strong financial-logistics control. Odoo is strong business-wide coherence.

Finance and logistics: a real strength, and the edge of it
Odoo has complete accounting, purchasing, inventory and sales too, but its pull is connecting them to CRM, production, eCommerce and service on one model rather than as a finance-and-logistics core with the rest bolted on.
Visma Net is genuinely strong here: financials, invoicing, payments, purchasing, inventory and order management, plus a dedicated project-accounting module with budgets, WIP, revenue recognition and project invoicing. For a finance-led organisation that is a lot of value.

Not primarily a production ERP
Odoo Manufacturing is a native core module: BoMs, routings, work centres, MRP, material reservations, shop floor, quality, subcontracting and pre/post-calculation, on the same model as sales, inventory and finance.
Visma Net has inventory, purchasing, orders and logistics, but no strong official positioning as an MRP/manufacturing platform. For real production complexity, you would validate carefully.

CRM, Sales, Marketing, Website, eCommerce, Portal, Helpdesk, Field Service and Repair are native Odoo apps on the same data model as inventory and accounting.
Visma Net holds customer and order data and exposes it via its API, but CRM, eCommerce and service are not its natural core - they typically run in HubSpot/Salesforce, Shopify/WooCommerce/Magento and a separate helpdesk, connected via integrations.
For simple needs that is fine. For B2B eCommerce with customer pricing, a portal, returns and real-time stock, having it on one platform matters.

Odoo keeps one source of truth across sales, inventory, production, service and finance, so fewer separate tools and connectors are needed and the numbers agree.
Visma Net can be a strong financial-logistics heart, but CRM, marketing, eCommerce, service, project planning, production, BI and Excel often keep running around it - which works with good orchestration, but grows into a patchwork with duplicate data and connectors as the weak points.

A broad Dutch all-in-one suite, strong at finance, HR and payroll from one hand. A good choice if that integration is your biggest need; the trade-off is that it is rigid and closed - you adapt your processes to AFAS, not the other way around.

Why companies look for a Visma or AccountView alternative
Visma and AccountView earned their place with solid accounting: general ledger, invoicing, VAT returns and receivables. The pain is usually beyond finance. CRM, sales, inventory, eCommerce and a customer portal are thin or missing, so a second system often runs alongside with double entry and manual exports. With AccountView there is the desktop, client-server heritage on top: installed locally, dated next to modern browser-first software. Visma.net is more modern, but at its core it stays a financial platform the rest of the business has to be built around.
We know Visma from the inside

Which Visma product are you replacing?
Visma has grown into a large ecosystem through acquisitions, so the best alternative depends on which product you are replacing and how big you are. If you are replacing Visma eAccounting or you keep the books as a freelancer or small business, lightweight packages like e-Boekhouden.nl, Jortt or SnelStart are the obvious fit - and Odoo as soon as you want to grow into sales, inventory or a webshop. If you are replacing AccountView, you move from desktop bookkeeping to the cloud: Odoo Accounting feels familiar quickly there, with Exact or Twinfield as a purely accounting alternative. This is the heart of it, and we are honest about it. Exact, Twinfield and SnelStart are financial specialists deep in Dutch bookkeeping practice and collaboration with accountants. If you just want to modernise your administration and stay close to your bookkeeper, such a specialist can be more comfortable than a broad platform. Odoo wins the moment you want to connect finance to the rest of the business: one data model from quote to order to invoice, with CRM, webshop, inventory, projects and portal native alongside. One honest caveat: for Dutch payroll standard Odoo is limited - there we integrate a specialist like Nmbrs or Loket, instead of pretending Odoo solves that best itself.
How to choose
Three rules of thumb. One: if your need is purely bookkeeping and you want to stay close to your accountant, Exact, Twinfield or - for small companies - SnelStart are the logical candidates. Two: if you want to connect finance to CRM, sales, inventory, eCommerce, projects and portal on one modern platform, Odoo is usually the strongest choice, with a payroll integration for the NL-specific part. Three: if you mainly want finance, HR and payroll tightly from one Dutch hand, AFAS comes into play - provided you can live with the rigidity. Start from where your biggest pain is, not from the feature list.
